SNOHOMISH — First Street is back to being the venue to see all the concerts, pie-eating contests and summertime fun for the annual Kla Ha Ya Days events Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.
Conversations last week led to placing all the weekend events back on First Street versus splitting sites.
Kla Ha Ya Days’ organizers leaped for the change.
“As I told the board, it feels like we’re going home” to First Street, volunteer organization president Andrew Urie said.
An earlier plan offered by the city placed some of the Saturday afternoon events at Averill Field.
“After all of the research and discussion, the current city administrators, event organizers and partners could find no reason as to why the event should move from its historical location,” new city director of community engagement Shari Ireton said.
The City Council is tentatively scheduled to vote to approve the event permit June 21, Ireton said.
The annual Kla Ha Ya Days Grand Parade starts at 10 a.m. starting from the east. Post-parade events such as the concert series, vendor fair and summertime contests will fill the afternoon.
Stick around Sunday, July 17 for a car show along First Street. The car show will be paired with concerts, Urie said.
The annual carnival returns to Harvey Field for much of the week.
Ireton is leading a city department being built to focus on business development and community volunteerism. She took over a vacancy left by Wendy Poischbeg in June.
