SNOHOMISH — Nate DuChesne’s varied career took him to the top in school athletics and then the top principal at Mariner High.
His commute will become a lot shorter come September, though: He’s been announced as the next principal of Snohomish High.
Once a skillful varsity basketball player, post-college he became an accomplished high school basketball coach who took teams such as the Stanwood Spartans into State tournaments. He also had stints coaching basketball at Edmonds College, the University of Montana and Portland State University. During the 2010s he became Mariner High’s athletic director and then became the high school’s principal in 2016.
The halls in Snohomish High are familiar, and the basketball court doubly so: DuChesne is a 1985 graduate. His daughter Maya DuChesne is a 2019 graduate who was a key player for the girls basketball team.
Snohomish High’s administrative structure will otherwise remain the same with assistant principals Nick Allen, Anne Tompkins and Steve VerHoeven.
Glacier Peak is undergoing a change, too, as Brenda Conrad will become principal. She’s coming from being an assistant principal at Woodinville High School.
Snohomish’s principal Eric Cahan will be switching to being principal at Valley View Middle School this fall. Glacier Peak’s principal Jeff Larson is returning to his roots as a classroom teacher.
