EVERETT — State Rep. April Berg has taken off her other hat as an Everett School Board member. She submitted her school board resignation in mid-May. She was in both roles for 2½ years..
Applications to fill the school board vacancy are being taken through Thursday, June 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the school district’s Superintendent’s Office.
People who apply must provide a biographical sketch, a statement of interest, and the candidate’s name, residential address and contact phone number. An email address should also be provided.
People can email their application package to schoolboard@everettsd.org or can mail or deliver it to the superintendent’s office, 3900 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201.
The public can also suggest candidate nominations through Friday, June 3. Nominees will be asked if they’d like to be added to send an application package for the candidate pool.
On June 14, the school board will narrow down the appointee pool to five finalists.
The finalists will be interviewed during the June 21 meeting which starts in the early afternoon. An appointment decision is expected at the June 21 meeting.
The appointment term is through 2023.
The district does not use geographic districts, so anyone within the district’s boundaries can apply.
Berg won election as a state Representative in 2020, a year after winning election to the school board.
“I wish I could do both for longer, I wish I could,” Berg told fellow board members with sadness at the May 24 board meeting.
The board meets twice a month at 5 p.m. Tuesdays.
