Fryelands—U.S. 2 spot to be future warehouse
MONROE — The big construction site at Fryelands Boulevard and U.S. 2 will be a warehouse, but its tenant hasn’t been identified yet.
The new 127,000-square-foot warehouse will stand two stories tall. City senior planner Anita Marrero said she thinks it might be complete by summer 2023.
The site owner is a limited liability company that’s governed by the president of a Snoqualmie-based specialty glassmaking company.
The site is for lease. A listed leasing agent for the site didn’t pick up the phone.
Eastside Masonry had a building on the site which has since been demolished.
Everett settlement offer in sexual harassment case
EVERETT — The City Council last week authorized a $24,000 settlement offer to Keanan Metcalfe, a firefighter who sued the city over alleged sexual harassment by a former Everett firefighter during training.
According to the Herald, the instructor, Chau Nguyen, is no longer with Everett Fire.
If the settlement is accepted, it would close the case; if not it would go to trial, city attorney David Hall explained to the council.
Ken’s Camera is closing as owners retire
EVERETT — After 51 years, it’s retirement time for the second generation owners of Ken’s Camera, 8907 Evergreen Way. It is one of the few independent photo printing shops left and may be the last to offer same-day film processing.
Ken Minnig and his wife first opened in Lynnwood. Brother and sister Eric Minnig and Barbara Reed will close the Evergreen Way store at the end of the year.
Another family member’s Ken’s Camera store in Mount Vernon, Skagit County, also is closing, the Skagit Valley Herald reported.
Federal cash for Lynnwood Link line
SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Sound Transit’s future Lynnwood light rail line, scheduled to open in 2024, would be allocated $254 million in the U.S. Senate's version of the federal Omnibus spending bill, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell’s office announced Dec. 21. The U.S. House had not approved the omnibus package as of Thursday.
All of the funding would be from the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program.
The money in the omnibus bill accelerates funding for the projects, Sound Transit spokesman John Gallagher said, which reduces the cost of servicing debt. There is still $250 million left in federal funding to come.
Cantwell’s office said this appropriation "puts the project on a path to be fully funded in (fiscal year 2024).”
Lynnwood Link also received a separate $54 million federal grant, Gallagher said.
