SNOHOMISH — A few new park rules would let children establish little businesses and put a ban on flying drones overhead.
The city park rules are being updated with the times. For example, electric scooter users would have to follow an existing 15 mph speed limit inside parks.
E-bike riders would need to wear helmets.
Anyone age 16 or under who flagrantly violates these rules could see a park ranger take their e-bike or scooter away which a parent would have to pick up from impound for a $50 fee.
The age limit would be 13 for selling goods in a park.
Another rule addition makes it a municipal violation to harass park wildlife. If a park ranger sees, this is a punishable offense of up to $250.
Fishers can be compelled to show their fishing licenses.
And to fly a drone, the park rules will say you’ll need the park director’s permission first.
Park rangers can’t ask for a person’s identity anymore, so a police officer will be dispatched if necessary to do it, assistant parks director Kimberley Moore said.
The City Council will vote on these amendments at its Wednesday, Aug. 10 meeting that starts at 6:30 p.m. at 3002 Wetmore Ave. in the police department building.
The code was last adjusted in 2018.
