SNOHOMISH — A full repave of the bumpy Bickford Avenue bridge over state Route 9 requires closing the bridge. A detour will be set up.
The closure started Monday, Sept. 13 and is anticipated to be closed through to as late as Monday, Sept. 20.
The repave for Bickford Avenue is between the roundabout and the end of the highway bridge. The state Department of Transportation will also inspect the bridge underside.
The asphalt will be ground and scraped, and it will be fully removed at the bridge itself. State inspectors will be checking the wooden deck of the bridge while it’s exposed. Once the bridge gets an all-clear, the city will put new pavement down, city engineer Yosh Monzaki explained.
The project timeline shifted from the week of Sept. 7. The city initially had signs up saying it would happen last week.
The city will concurrently be working on a multi-block portion of Park Avenue and a small section of Avenue D.
The work on Park Avenue puts new pavement between roughly Hill Park and Cascade View Elementary. This week, the city is grinding old pavement from Park Avenue, Monzaki said.
The city also has a project going on Fourth Street between avenues E and J. The city is first replacing aging water and sewer pipes. A new, separate pipe for stormwater will go in. This additional pipe will keep
rainwater out of the sewer system. It also is adding sidewalk curb cut-outs for ADA accessibility.
After these projects are complete, this section of Fourth Street will get new asphalt.
Last but not least, on Friday, Sept. 10, the city finished repaving part of 14th Street.
