SNOHOMISH — Leadership posts for the 2022 Kla Ha Ya Days festival were announced. Andrew Urie continues as festival president; Kari Zimmerman will be vice president.

Everett budget input opportunities
EVERETT — The City Council is taking testimony on the 2022 budget through most of the month, including holding the second of three scheduled budget hearings at its Nov. 17 meeting. The council is set to vote on Mayor Cassie Franklin’s proposed budget at its Dec. 1 meeting.

Monroe’s Brad Feilberg is retiring
MONROE — The city has appointed Jakeh Roberts as city public works director as part of a transition at the top.
Brad Feilberg, who started in Monroe as a junior engineer 35 years ago, is retiring from the city at the end of the year.
Feilberg’s multifaceted work earned him the honorary key to the city in 2015. During Monroe’s leanest part of the Recession 10 years ago, he held three hats at once as the city’s finance director, city engineering director and a lead planner. Notably, Feilberg also manages the city’s emergency preparedness response efforts.
Roberts became director Nov. 1, and Feilberg retains public works emeritus status.
Meanwhile in the city planning department, the City Council is scheduled to appoint a new community development director next month.
Last but not least, the city is hiring an additional person to enlarge the finance department.

Everett to make codes gender-neutral
EVERETT — The city is poised to edit its code book to use gender-neutral terms throughout. The City Council will be asked to vote on the changes at its Nov. 24 meeting.
Mayor Cassie Franklin supports the move. Natalia Tune, a city resident, said at the Nov. 3 council meeting that it is “so important that every member of the community is represented” and called it “well past time” to make the change.
