EVERETT — The United States junior hockey team defeated Team Canada in dominating fashion on Jan. 5 to win the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Edmonton, Canada. Everett Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf is the back-up goalie for Team USA.
Team USA defeated Finland in a hard-fought semi-final game the day before, receiving their bid to play for the gold medal. Canada came into the championship game fresh off a 5-0 win over the Russians, who defeated team USA early during pool play. Before playing the Americans, Team Canada had yet to be scored on in a five-on-five situation and held the highest seed throughout the tournament.
Wearing 1980 throwback jerseys, Team USA handled the more talented Canadian team from start to finish, shutting them out with a final score of 2-0.
Wolf’s NHL rights belong to the Calgary Flames after being selected in the 7th round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
