EVERETT — The stage appears set for who will face off in the first district-based council elections for Everett as two primary races settled out.
In District 3 for west Everett, polls show Don Schwab and Lacey Sauvageau will be facing off to represent City Council District 3 in November’s general election.
In Council District 5, Ben Zarlingo and Demi Chatters have bounced Kelly M. Fox out. Zarlingo led the primary with about 45% of the vote.
In District 3, Schwab carried over 70% of the vote as of Friday, Aug. 6. In second place was Sauvageau, who had 18% of the vote. Jacob Vail carried under 9 percent of the vote.
The District 3 race had a turnout of about 21%, or 3,425 people cast ballots among of the 12,861 registered voters within this district. There is no incumbent council members living this district.
District 5 includes Silver Lake and the eastern part of the Twin Creeks and Cascade View Neighborhoods.
In the race for District 5, Candidates Chatters and Fox seemed to be initially in a close battle for second, but the gulf between them grew over time. Chatters led Fox by 117 votes as of Friday, Aug. 6, or about four-and-a-half percentage points.
Fox conceded and has endorsed Chatters, Fox confirmed.
Councilman Jeff Moore, who lives in the Silver Lake Neighborhood, could have run in this district but is retiring from council this December after serving 12 years.
The District 5 race had a turnout of about 21%, as 2,615 people cast ballots among of the 12,292 registered voters within this district.
In the school board primary, incumbent Traci Mitchell and challenger Charles Mister, Jr. were leading over third-place Janelle Burke.
Overall turnout in the school board race was just above 25%.
The next tally of ballot results come out Wednesday, Aug. 11 after press time.
