44th Legislative District forum
SNOHOMISH —The League of Women Voters is holding a candidate forum for the 44th Legislative District that will be broadcast Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. by KSER 90.7 FM.
The public can submit candidate questions in advance until Oct. 4. To submit a question, go to the League’s website at https://lwvsnoho.org/services/forums/
The 44th Legislative District includes Snohomish. The candidates invited to the forum are:
44th Rep., Position 1: John Lovick and John T. Kartak
44th Rep., Position 2: Mark A. James and April Berg
The audio recording of the forum will be posted to the League’s website after Oct. 10.
New drive-through mailbox coming for downtown Everett post office
EVERETT —The drive-through mailbox at the downtown post office on Hoyt avenue is being replaced after vandals pried it apart.
“A new box has been ordered. We’re not certain when the new box will arrive,” U.S. Postal Service regional spokesman Ernie Swanson said by email last week.
The vandalism happened sometime on Sunday, Sept. 18, Swanson said.
A North Everett resident told the Tribune that a post office clerk told her that this is not the first time this box has been damaged. The drive-through lane was roped off because the vandalized mailbox is considered temporarily out of order.
Everett Police does not appear to have a report about the damage, police spokesman Officer Aaron Snell said.
Signs in Snohomish warn cat owners
SNOHOMISH — Signs have been posted around town by a private citizen warning of “missing and mutilated” cats. The sign says if anyone has any information regarding this matter or is missing a cat, to call the police department.
As of Sept. 25, no reports regarding mutilated or missing cats have been filed, according to Sgt. Nathan Alanis.
“My initial thought is that it is likely a predator but seeing as we’ve had nothing reported to us I can’t say for certain,” Alanis said. “I don’t think that it’s anything that should be a concern to anybody.”

Air travel COVID-19 safety measures
Gov. Jay Inslee announced a series of new guidelines last week for airports which include adding protective barriers to separate travelers and workers.
At a conference Thursday, Sept. 24, Alaska Airlines’ vice president for safety explained how the airline has reduced how many seats are filled on flights, and is using electrostatic cleaning as one of its sanitization methods.
A Delta Air Lines representative said it will begin having all passengers walk past a thermal camera to flag anyone showing a fever of 100.4 or higher, and disallow them from boarding. Delta continues to not let passengers use the middle seat in its planes, the representative said.
