SNOHOMISH — Farmers Market frequenters have one last chance to see their favorite vendors and stock up on farm-fresh produce just in time for the holidays. Following an eventful yet successful 2020 market season, the Snohomish Farmers Market is pleased to announce the continuation of the Holiday Market. The second annual Holiday Market is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, on the corner of Cedar Avenue and Pearl Street, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to hosting an outdoor market so people can safely shop from their farmers and local businesses in time for the holidays,” Snohomish Farmer’s Market manager, Sarah Dylan Jensen said. “We just felt that it would be safer and better adherence to the Department of Health guidelines if we were outside, even though it might be raining.”
The 2020 Holiday Market will have local farmers selling fresh produce, various food trucks, handmade goods, gifts for the holidays and much more.
In association with Historic Downtown Snohomish, the Holiday Market has signed up for the 2020 Charm Walk, which begins the same day. Jensen said she hopes the collaboration will bring people downtown that might not realize there is a Holiday Market, as well as support the downtown businesses.
In addition to local favorites like Radicle Roots Farm, the market will feature some new vendors as well. According to Jensen, this year the market secured a mushroom farmer, which she thinks will be very popular with Thanksgiving around the corner.
Brussel sprout stalks from Radicle Roots Farm were last year’s hottest item, selling out 90 minutes after opening, according to Jensen. She explained brussel sprouts grow on a long stalk and are normally removed when harvested for grocery stores.
“He had a bunch of those and they look like decorations being carried around in people’s reusable totes, sticking out and poking other customers, that was the funniest,” Jensen said.
The Holiday Market was created in 2019 out of necessity. Jensen said there was a high demand for people wanting something in the offseason or even year-round to shop from. She added that farmers still had products available that they “would love to get rid of and sell in time for Thanksgiving.”
The 2019 Holiday Market had partnered with Historic Downtown Snohomish and Snohomish High School to hold the event inside. The Snohomish Senior center also partnered with the market, providing shuttle transportation so senior citizens could easily enjoy what farmers had to offer.
“It was a huge success and people were so happy and our farmers were happy. We were also able to service our businesses (in town),” Jensen said.
Jensen expects the 2020 Holiday Market to have high attendance because of the lack of events taking place, similar to the start of the market season in May when COVID-19 shut down the county.
“We can’t do it the same (as last year), obviously, because of COVID,” Jensen said. “But we’re going to do the best we can.”
