If your child will turn 5 by Aug. 31, kindergarten is in their immediate future. Information events for Snohomish and Monroe schools are happening this week.
The Snohomish School District will be holding its information nights on March 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at nine elementary schools: Cascade View, Cathcart, Central Primary, Dutch Hill, Little Cedars, Machias, Riverview, Seattle Hill and Totem Falls. Emerson Elementary doesn’t have students in these early grades.
In Monroe, kindergarten informational meetings will be held districtwide Thursday, March 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at five schools: Chain Lake, Frank Wagner, Frye-lands, Maltby and Salem Woods elementaries.
In Everett, open registration for kindergarten began Monday, March 2.
Items you should bring to complete a registration packet include the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, emergency contact information and phone numbers (at least 2), name and phone number of your family doctor, a parent’s phone number at work, any relevant legal documents (parenting plans, protection orders, etc.) and other information.
In Snohomish, the school district has firm rules about showing proof of residency that you live in the district. Driver’s licenses, cell phone bills, or vehicle registration papers are not acceptable forms of proof for Snohomish Schools. What is acceptable is a current Snohomish County property tax statement (original) with the parent/guardian’s name and address, or a current utility bill (PUD, water, or cable bill, for example), or the closing documents of a home purchase (but not purchase offers).
All elementary schools offer all-day kindergarten at no cost to families.

School districts say it is important for families to register as soon as possible as some schools may fill their classrooms early, which will force students that register later to be bused to another elementary school.
State law requires incoming kindergarten students to have received current immunizations by the first day of class and be age five by Aug. 31, 2020 to enroll this year.
