MONROE — A $12.3 million replacement levy supporting technology in the school district is on the ballots.
The district is requesting renewal of an expiring tech levy that passed in 2014. If voters approve, the district will be authorized to collect a straight $0.21 per $1,000 of assessed property value each year from 2021 to 2026 toward the tech levy.
The goal of the levy is to prepare students for future careers and understand how to be responsible digital citizens, through use of up-to-date equipment.
If renewed, the levy would:
• Keep classroom technologies current with industry standards by updating software, student computing devices, interactive display panels, document cameras, staff workstations and classroom audio enhancement systems.
• Provide training for teachers to integrate technology into classroom instruction.
• Utilize online applications, subscription services and/or software licenses for classroom instruction that have ongoing fees.
• Upgrade and add safety equipment and systems, which potentially could be electronic locks and programming, security cameras and visitor management technology.
• Provide student training for online safety and digital citizenship.
• Update and maintain equipment such as robots, circuits and programming devices.
Ballots are due by Feb. 11.
