Q&A on Everett’s budget on Thursday
EVERETT — Mayor Cassie Franklin is hosting a live Q&A on her official Facebook page about the city’s 2021 budget. Tune in Thursday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. to hear an update on the City’s current financial situation and an outlook for next year, as well as hear answers to budget questions from the community. New Monroe school board member
MONROE — On July 27, the Monroe School Board selected Jennifer Bumpus to fill the vacancy from the sudden resignation by Jerry Martin. Bumpus will hold the board appointment to 2023, and can run for election.
Bumpus owns the Elite Training Academy with husband Michael Bumpus, who led the Monroe High School football team to success at State.
Martin resigned in June after a video spread on social media where teenagers confronted his teenage daughter’s alleged use of derogatory and racial words. He said in a statement in the aftermath that her language doesn’t represent the family.
Four candidates were interviewed for the seat, district spokeswoman Tamara Krache said. The seat represents
families and students in the neighborhoods in the western half of Monroe, plus north of state Route 522 in the areas along Fales Road and Elliott Road.

EVERETT — The city is auctioning off sections of firehose damaged by the July waterfront fire at the Port of Everett. The sections of hose are no longer usable. The waterfront fire July 16 burned down an apartment building under construction.
SNAP benefits extended
The state has secured extended SNAP benefits for food stamp cardholders for the month of August.
Larger-than-normal EBT/SNAP benefits began in March in response to the pandemic. The state asks the federal government for funding to pay for the enlarged benefits on a month-to-month basis.
Police want to contact Toyota 4Runner driver
BOTHELL — Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) detectives continue investigating the shooting incident on July 13 at 9:40 p.m., in the area of SR-522 and SR-527 (also known as Bothell Landing), which resulted in the death of Bothell Police Officer Jonathan Shoop. SMART detectives want to contact the occupant(s) of a white 1995-2002 Toyota 4Runner SUV. The Toyota 4Runner pulled over for the marked patrol SUV as it passed with lights and siren then followed behind the Bothell Police SUV and stopped prior to/or as the shooting occurred.
