MONROE — There’s one race on the City Council as incumbent Councilman Ed Davis is being challenged by Delma Silva, a city planning commission member.
Small business owner Heather Rousey is destined to take over Councilman Jim Kamp’s seat. Rousey is the only candidate running. She co-owns the Original Pilot Coffee House on Main Street and sits on the city’s planning commission and Economic Development Advisory Board.
Councilman Jason Gamble is running unopposed.
Davis was appointed to council and has won re-election twice.
Silva is on the city’s planning commission. She works as a Realtor.
Kamp said he’s OK with not running again after eight years on council and serving on the city planning commission before that. It’s time to “move on,” he said.
“The past year and a half, I think I’ve been able to convince the administration” to follow many of the platform points he held when he ran for mayor against Geoffrey Thomas in 2017. Among these were keeping taxes low, strengthening the city’s economic development efforts and to include more businessowner input on issues.
Monroe school board:
Two seats have attracted contenders.
Appointed school board member Shawn Anderson faces Krystal E. Noga-Styron.
Running for an open seat are Paul Faulds, Eric Halvorson and Chuck Whitfield. School board member Nancy Truitt Pierce is vacating her seat.
School board member Jerry Martin is running unopposed.
