Airport Way closure for railroad work
On May 20, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) plans to repair the railroad crossing across Airport Way. The railroad crossing will be closed Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. to Tuesday, May 21 at 5 a.m., according to a BNSF letter shared by the city.
E-scooter proposal to go before council
EVERETT — On May 15, the City Council will hear a presentation on a proposed pilot program to allow powered scooter rentals in the city. Riders use an app to unlock a scooter for about $1 to $2 to ride it whereever they want, and leave it at their destination for the next person to rent.
The city’s volunteer-led Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) recommended at its March meeting that the city pursue implementing an e-scooter program.
Lime has run pilot e-scooter programs in Tacoma and Spokane, and has discussed e-scooters with a half dozen other Puget Sound cities. Seattle just recently did a 180 on considering allowing the scooters, The Seattle Times reported.
The City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at 3002 Wetmore Ave. No vote is planned at that meeting.
The Bayside Neighborhood also will hear about Lime e-scooters at its Wednesday, May 15 meeting to be held at Everett High School.
New Lewis Street Park play equipment
MONROE — The city will be putting in replacement playground equipment at Lewis Street Park that should be installed by the end of June.
A groundbreaking to celebrate and learn more about the equipment is set for Thursday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m.
The play equipment includes a youth climbing wall with netting and simulated rocks, and a pad-like swing that can hold multiple kids at once. The climbing wall is ground-level and kids can climb up to about eight feet off the ground with it, according to manufacturer GameTime.
Council to discuss ATVs on roads
SNOHOMISH — The City Council is scheduled to discuss whether to allow ATV riders to use city roads at its June 18 meeting.
A group of riders came to council in April advocating the city to open up the road to them. City engineer Yosh Monzaki is investigating the issue. Allowing ATVs on city streets would match neighboring cities in Sultan, Monroe and Lake Stevens, the advocacy group says.
The City Council traditionally meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 1601 Ave. D. Meetings start at 6 p.m.
Don Tisdel, of Tiz’s Doors, has died
EVERETT — Donald Tisdel, a civic donor who with his wife Joyce built the company Tiz’s Doors from sawdust in their garage in 1966, died at age 91 on May 2
The company manufactures and sells pre-hung doors and frames. From there, he and Joyce became civic leaders for Everett, including being one of the founding families for the Community Foundation of Snohomish County. Joyce died in 2015.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, June 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Everett Golf & Country Club.

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — May 13 through 17 marks the five-day window for candidates to jump into their perspective election races. There are four seats on Snohomish City Council, three seats on Everett City Council and three seats on Monroe City Council up for election, plus a seat at the Port of Everett and numerous others.
