Top two leaders resign from Snohomish Health District

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — The Snohomish Health District’s chief administrator and its official health officer resigned last week.
The countywide district’s board accepted both administrator Jefferson Ketchel and health officer Dr. Mark Beatty’s resignations at its Tuesday, june 18 meeting.
In their place, the board appointed Shawn Fredrick as interim director and Dr. Chris Spitters as the interim county health officer.
Fredrick is the district’s Administration Services Director.
Spitters is the district’s contracted physician for tuberculosis control.
The board’s meeting last week was an unscheduled special meeting. The agenda was a closed-door session to discuss personnel matters, with a possible action afterward.
Ketchel was formally appointed as the district’s administrator in November 2017 after months as the interim administrator.
Ketchel joined the Snohomish Health District as the environmental health director in July 2015. Prior to that, Ketchel served as administrator of the Grant County Health District for five years following 15 years in environmental health at Public Health – Seattle & King County.
Ketchel succeeded Dr. Gary Goldbaum, who jointly served as the district’s administrator and health officer.
Beatty was hired as the district’s health officer in September 2017.
