This Fourth of July, there’s something to do both day and night

EVERETT — Come see the fireworks and maybe get a morning run this Fourth of July in Everett.
Everett’s annual Colors of Freedom mile-long parade starts downtown at 11 a.m. More than 50 entries are expected, including a pre-show by the Seattle Cossacks motorcycle stunt team, marching bands and many floats.
When getting there, the Everpark garage at 2815 Hoyt Ave. (between Hewitt and California) is free and open on July 4. Everett Transit is free all day and will be running shuttles to the parade from Everett Station.
After the parade, the city’s Colors of Freedom festival kicks off at 1 p.m. and runs through 11 p.m. at Legion Park, 145 Alverson Blvd. Live bands will play all day.
Everett’s Thunder on the Bay fireworks show starts at 10 p.m. with some of the best views from Legion Park.
No parking is at Legion Park on July 4. The city recommends people take Everett Transit, which will run shuttles to the show. The last shuttle to Legion Park leaves the Everett Station and Everett Community College parking lots at 9:10 p.m.
That morning, get your running shoes on for the YMCA’s 20th annual Yankee Doodle Dash at 2720 Rockefeller Ave. A 10 kilometer dash starts at 8 a.m., a 5 kilometer dash starts at 8:15 a.m. and a 1 mile run starts at 8:20 a.m. A free Kiddy Doodle Dash starts shortly thereafter.
Adult registration is $15 for the 1 mile run, $35 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Kids’ registration is $25 for the 10K. People can register at the Everett YMCA facility or online at the YMCA Snohomish County website. Registration closes July 1. People registering that morning should add $5 to the registration cost. Hundreds participate in the annual dash.
From noon to 4 p.m., the public is invited to tour the Police Department headquarters at 3002 Wetmore Ave. Learn about police operations and the rich history of the department.
Detectives, crime scene investigators, K-9 handlers and officers from other police functions will talk about their work. Colby the Crime Prevention Dog will be there, too.
After the parade, families can enjoy a free street fair called Fun in the Sun hosted by First Baptist Church at the corner of Wetmore and Pacific avenues. The festival runs from noon to 3 p.m. The street fair includes children’s inflatables, live music and more.
In Monroe, Evergreen Speedway hosts the USA Birthday Bash on July 4. See a demolition derby, stunts, the wackiness of boat trailer racing and a full slate of events. Fireworks after. The show’s at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $12 to $25 for youth and $20 to $25 for adults.
Snohomish doesn’t have anything special lined up for the Fourth of July, city economic development manager Wendy Poischbeg said.
