MONROE — Monroe High’s Head Football Coach Michael Bumpus, who is credited for building the Bearcats over the past four years, resigned Monday, Dec. 16.
“The foundation for this great program has been set for years to come, and because of that, amongst other things, I am comfortable and confident enough in its direction,” Bumpus wrote in a message on Twitter announcing his resignation.
The school will begin searching for a head football coach in January, Monroe High’s athletic director said.
The team reached the State quarterfinals in 2017, capping a 10-2 season. Last season’s record was 6-4.
Bumpus joined Monroe’s program in February 2015. He stayed longer than his three predecessors.
