SNOHOMISH — Inform yourself on common scams and how to guard loved ones from going missing at an upcoming town hall.
The town hall is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Snohomish Senior Center, 506 Fourth St.
The topics are the Project Care Track program and on scams that target seniors. The Police Department will also summarize recent crime activity. A Q-and-A on crime rounds out the meeting.
Project Care Track provides a trackable bracelet that gives a live radio signal with the wearer’s location. It is a Sheriff’s Office program for people who are prone to wander off, specifically people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Six out of 10 people with Alzheimer’s will wander off at any stage of the disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Enrolling in Project Care Track costs $125, plus a monthly upkeep fee of $18 to replace batteries in the bracelet, according to Project Care Track’s overseer. He described the bracelet as about the size of a wristwatch.
There are 80 people enrolled in Project Care Track right now.
The city’s all-volunteer Public Safety Commission is putting on the town hall. It plans to hold its next town hall in September on emergency preparedness, including how to “map your neighborhood” to identify neighbors who may need help in an emergency and which neighbors may have tools or life-saving knowledge that can be put to use.
People at the April 25 meeting will also be given needle collection kits and prescription medication lock bags, pending available supplies.
The needle collection kits come through the Snohomish Health District, which has distributed more than 1,200 kits to the public since 2017. The needle kit contains tongs, a sharps container, puncture-proof gloves, hand sanitizer, safety glasses and related
materials for safely picking up needles.
