Monroe school superintendent finalists set, decision Thursday

MONROE — Two superintendents and one assistant superintendent are the finalists to become the next district superintendent. A final selection will be Thursday, Jan. 26. The finalists are:
• Greg Schwab, an assistant superintendent at the Edmonds School District handling secondary education as well as facilities and operations. In addition, he oversees the district’s athletic department and its Technology, Career and Technical Education department. He joined Edmonds in 2017.
• Voni Walker, the superintendent of the Manson School District in Chelan County of about 700 students. She joined there in 2020 to fill a vacancy after 17 years as a supervisor in the Arlington School District. Walker is a former Monroe teacher.
• Shawn Woodward, the superintendent of the Mead School District near Spokane of about 10,275 students. He joined there in 2019 to fill a retirement vacancy. Prior to Mead, he was superintendent of the smaller Lake Pend Oreille School District.

The interviews will be this Thursday, Jan. 26. The public can watch the interviews, and there will be a community panel at 6 p.m. that evening at https://monroe-wednet.zoom.us/j/88052603326 . Observers may watch at the District Administration Office and over Zoom.
The school board decided these semi-finalists Friday, Jan. 20.

 MONROE — Over the next two weeks, the school board will be narrowing the candidates for superintendent down to select the finalists, who will be publicly interviewed at the Thursday, Jan. 26 board meeting.
Additionally that Thursday, there will be a public meeting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. where a panel of parents and community members will ask questions.
Also, a school board opening emerges for anyone in the southwestern side of the district.
