Brandy Donaghy appointed to Legislature

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Last week, the County Council unanimously selected state Rep. John Lovick to take the State Senator’s seat vacated by Steve Hobbs.
For Lovick’s seat, the council selected Brandy Donaghy.
Donaghy joins state Rep. April Berg as the two state Representatives in the 44th Legislative District.
The district’s boundary lines currently span from the Getchell area north of Lake Stevens to Mill Creek.
Donaghy ran for County Council District 5 earlier this year.
Lovick’s move was predicted. Democratic Party precinct committee officers predominantly nominated him for the seat at a candidate selection meeting held Dec. 5.
The County Council selected Donaghy in a 4-1 decision.Councilwoman Megan Dunn opted for another nominee, Sean Paddock of Mill Creek, because precinct committee officers gave him the most nomination votes at the Dec. 5 precinct meeting. Paddock received 31 votes of precinct committee officers versus 12 votes for Donaghy.
Before interviewing candidates, the council heard a split of public comments from people lobbying largely for either Paddock or Donaghy.
Hobbs’ seat became vacant because in November he was appointed Secretary of State by Gov. Jay Inslee.
