92-year-old man organizing his Class of ‘43 reunion

SNOHOMISH — He’s working to get his classmates together for a reunion, but 75 years since graduation can make tracking people down a little difficult.
Ralph Sterley, 92, was born and raised in Wenatchee before joining the Navy for World War II on the submarine fleet. Postwar, he went to the University of Washington and later settled in Snohomish to start a long career as an electrical engineer, largely for the Bonneville Power Administration.
Lately, his project has been setting up the Wenatchee High Class of 1943 reunion.
Why? “I thought it’d be kind of fun,” Sterley said.
Working from directories and tracking people in, Sterley has been pursuing people with diligence. Of his 275 classmates born in the mid-1920s, more than half are deceased. He’s found 22 living classmates so far, with 68 more to track down.
The women who changed to their married names posed an extra challenge, his daughter Lori Sterley said.
The reunion is Aug. 3 and 4. If you know someone, call 360-568-4420.
