2 shot, 1 dead in drug deal that went sour in north Everett
EVERETT — In the scope
of minutes, an alleged drug deal involving four men went bad with an attempted robbery.
One is dead from the early morning fatal shooting on Monday, March 13 in the 2300 block of Lombard Ave.
Two people were shot and two suspects were taken into custody, said Everett Police spokeswoman Sgt. Maryjane Hacker. One victim was taken to the hospital, and the second victim was found deceased in the backyard of a house near the scene.
According to Hacker, the incident was quickly responded to because officers were already in the area investigating another matter when they heard the four or five gunshots. Officers went to the 2300 block of Lombard Avenue where they saw a man running. Police detained the running man and another male believed to be involved. The running man identified himself as the shooter and was cooperative at the scene, Hacker said.
The shooter told police he met the two other men for a marijuana drug deal
and those two other men attempted to rob him, so he fired at them. As officers were talking with him, one of the victims walked up to officers and told them he’d been
shot in the shoulder. That first victim was treated at the
scene and transported to Providence Regional Medical Center. He is expected to live. The shooter told police he thought he also shot the second would-be robber, but police could not find him initially. A K9 unit found the body.
Hacker said the shooter was arrested on drug charges only, as of press time, and police are still investigating the death.
He was arrested on a drug charge for marijuana because he had more than the state’s legal limit allowed on him,
with intent to distribute.
