Meanwhile, experts note an offshoot mutation of the Omicron variant — a subvariant named Omicron BA.2.12.1 — is beginning to spread, and this one appears to be more resilient to vaccines.

EVERETT — Everett Transit has announced its proposal plans to modify fares for its bus services.
The proposal consists of: free youth fare, introduction of a Subsidized Annual Pass program, and reducing the current ORCA Lift fare to $1.
The ORCA Lift program lets income-eligible residents in the system pay reduced fares. A public hearing on these ideas will take place before the City Council on Wednesday, June 1 regarding the proposed fare change.

Extensive state Route 9
closure planned
for end of May
SNOHOMISH — On Tuesday, May 31 at 8 p.m., northbound state Route 9 between Second Street and 30th Street will fully close 24 hours a day until 5 a.m. Monday, June 6. Signed detours will be in place. The state Department of Transportation is putting in a roundabout at SR9 and Bickford.
 SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Three area farmers markets are opening for the season in coming weeks, with Snohomish and Everett starting May 5 and May 8. Market managers hope that the new customers and vendors who found them during the pandemic will be back, resulting in more vibrant markets than ever.

Firefighters train on vehicle operations

A couple of weeks ago, firefighters headed to Braven Auto and Metals off of N. Machias Road in Lake Stevens for hand-on training. The auto recycling yard offered scrap vehicles to use for practicing cutting off roofs, bending back car doors and other rescue extraction methods.
